About The Position

Join the City of Fullerton as our next Purchasing Supervisor and play a key role in ensuring City departments have the goods, services and resources they need to serve the community. Under general direction, Purchasing Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of the City's Purchasing Program. Position organizes, coordinates, and supervises the work of buyers and support staff that perform purchasing functions; performs the more complex and responsible professional purchasing and procurement work, including purchasing a wide variety of materials, services, supplies, and equipment according to City purchasing policies and practices and requisition specifications; manages the effective use of resources to improve organizational productivity and customer service; provides complex and responsible support to the Budget & Purchasing Manager in areas of expertise; and performs related work as required. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, purchasing, accounting, finance, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of responsible purchasing, administrative and/or analytical experience.
  • A valid Class C California driver’s license or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel is required.
  • Employees in this classification who drive on city business will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles Government Pull Notice Program.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs.
  • Applicants must provide specific and complete details about their qualifications.
  • The background check will include fingerprinting, verified by the State of California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • All appointees will serve a 6-month probationary period.
  • Per California Government Code §3100 - 3109, all public employees are declared to be disaster service workers and must take and subscribe to the oath or affirmation.
  • The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires that you must be a U.S. citizen or an alien lawfully authorized to be eligible for hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a Certified Public Procurement Officer (CPPO) certification issued by the Universal Public Procurement Certification Council (UPPCC), or comparable designation is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the City's purchasing operations.
  • Managing bids, contracts, and vendor relationships.
  • Supervising and training staff.
  • Monitoring purchasing systems, preparing reports, and supporting cost-effective decisions.
  • Providing guidance and support to City departments on purchasing needs.
