About The Position

Athea Laboratories, a leader in specialty chemical product manufacturing, is seeking a Purchasing Manager. This position is located at the Athea-Cornell: 1900 W. Cornell St. facility with required travel to other company facilities in the Milwaukee area. This position is responsible for the procurement of a wide range of commodities to support the Company’s manufacturing operations at two different locations, including non-woven substrates, chemicals, corrugate packaging, rigid plastic packaging, flexible packaging, labels, and closures. This person will lead bids and RFPs for items listed above, with the goal of cost savings, quality, and consolidation of SKUs. This person will cultivate existing business relationships with vendors, create new connections, and remain informed about relevant market trends. This person will also review existing purchasing processes and lead improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • B.S degree in Operations Management or a similar field.
  • 5+ years of managing a Purchasing department
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP systems is required.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills

  • Able to work within a team environment and provide cross functional support.

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (e.g., eye protection)

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications (APICS or similar) preferred
  • Experience buying chemical raw materials and/or non-wovens preferred
  • Working knowledge of MRP systems is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Reviews planning data and issues purchase orders to assure compliance with the production plan
  • Maintains vendor contact with respect to availability of materials and deliveries
  • Manages suppliers to reduce costs, improve quality and controls inventories and ensures a timely flow of materials.
  • Working in the Company’s Enterprise Resource Planning software for data entry and developing/running reports
  • Sourcing new vendors
  • Inter-departmental communication of cost changes, specification changes, availability, etc.
  • Develops a working knowledge of assigned commodities and associated supplier base.
  • Managing vendor performance, including vendor scorecard system
  • Managing customer forecasts and excess inventory agreements
  • Implement improvements to existing purchasing processes and delivery systems
  • Create and maintain key KPIs to present to upper management
  • Personnel management and supervision (candidate screening and interviewing, conducting personnel performance reviews, corrective action)
  • Assisting the Quality department with vendor compliance and audits
  • Lead or collaborate on special projects as assigned
  • Identify and implement ways to streamline processes and improve efficiency
  • Assists with Inventory Management
  • Tracks and reports on customer-supplied inventory
