The Purchasing Manager will manage the planning, purchasing, storage, control, and distribution of materials and products to meet company objectives and customer requirements. This role involves reviewing and distributing production drawings, ensuring confidentiality of proprietary information, and directing purchasing, production control, and inventory control functions. The manager will negotiate purchasing contracts, calculate and distribute mult lists, and complete documentation for material allocation. Key responsibilities include establishing material availability and quality, investigating vendor reliability and delivery schedules, supervising physical inventory, and maintaining accurate records of inventory, purchases, and vendor information, including mill-test reports. The role requires maintaining optimal inventory levels to ensure on-time delivery while minimizing costs, overseeing production control and scheduling, and balancing incoming materials with available resources. The Purchasing Manager will also oversee purchasing and contracting for various items, resolve material shortage issues, establish ethical purchasing practices, stay informed about legal issues and market trends, identify scheduled buys, and establish reporting systems. The position demands ensuring adherence to company standard practices, exploring new materials and suppliers, initiating disposition of obsolete items, negotiating returns and disposal of unused materials, and negotiating with vendors for production materials. This includes establishing quantities, selecting vendors, assessing capabilities, developing alternate sources, evaluating performance, and negotiating price and delivery. The role involves recommending major and bulk purchases, documenting purchases, expediting orders, completing accounting documentation, resolving discrepancies, analyzing purchasing history, and establishing purchasing schedules. The Purchasing Manager will also review production drawings, work with Engineering and Management on material substitutions, communicate changes in priorities, and establish performance goals.
