About The Position

The Purchasing Agent is responsible for the procurement of parts, equipment, and services needed to support the maintenance department in keeping the plant and facilities running smoothly. This role also oversees the day-to-day operations of the maintenance storeroom, ensuring accurate inventory, efficient stock control, and well-coordinated storeroom staff. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can make sound purchasing decisions independently while balancing cost, quality, and delivery needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or inventory/storeroom management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other basic office software.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound purchasing decisions without prior approval on routine matters.
  • Ability to lift and handle parts and equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license, with the ability to occasionally operate a company vehicle for parts pick-up/delivery.
  • Comfortable working in a warehouse environment with occasional noise, dust, temperature changes, and forklift/foot traffic.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience with a CMMS/ERP system (e.g., Oracle) for purchase order tracking and inventory management.
  • Experience purchasing for a maintenance, manufacturing, or food production environment.
  • Prior supervisory or lead experience, particularly in a storeroom or warehouse setting.
  • Forklift certification (or ability to obtain certification).
  • Purchasing/supply chain certification (e.g., APICS CPIM, ISM CPSM) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Create and issue purchase orders based on requisitions received from various departments.
  • Verify and maintain accurate records of procurement transactions, including invoices, delivery receipts, and supplier contracts.
  • Evaluate supplier performance, addressing quality, delivery, and cost issues to drive continuous improvement.
  • Assist in preparing reports on procurement metrics, such as order accuracy, delivery timelines, and cost savings.
  • Make purchases using a PO system and maintain proper documentation.
  • Procure contractor, tech support, and other outside services needed to keep equipment and facilities running.
  • Pick up and deliver parts and equipment as needed in a company vehicle (day trips, rare overnight requirement).
  • Oversee the daily operations of the storeroom, ensuring efficient inventory management and stock control.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of storeroom personnel, including receiving, issuing, and returning materials.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of inventory transactions, including receiving, issuing, and returning materials.
  • Monitor cycle counting processes to maintain inventory accuracy and address discrepancies.
  • Track inventory usage and adjust min/max stocking points to reflect the ongoing needs of the facility.
