About The Position

To procure steel, miscellaneous buyouts, supplies, and sub-contracts for the uninterrupted operation of the company.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of all aspects of purchasing, including legal, procurement, terms, etc.
• Thorough knowledge of miscellaneous steel including sizes, shapes, methods of production, pricing and transportation costs.
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
• Basic knowledge of accounting principles
• Proficiency with personal computers and standard business software.

Nice To Haves

• technical or college coursework preferred
• Previous experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or related environment preferred
• Experience in a steel industry environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Obtain competitive bids on materials, supplies, and subcontracts.
• Authority to issue purchase orders and award contracts based on greatest profitability to the company, quality and delivery.
• Expedite shipment of materials required and take corrective action regarding delayed items.
• Maintain inventory stock levels on material inventory as directed by Purchasing Manager.
• Process “Advance Material Lists” for contract jobs as directed by the Purchasing Manager.
• Obtain quotes and purchase materials and miscellaneous buyout items for Service Center and Contract Jobs.
• Maintain, reevaluate and expand reliable sources of supply and secondary sources as a back up to insure continued production.
• Determine market trends that may have an effect on prices and make recommendations for action on our part to the Purchasing Manager.
• Be cooperative in interactions with other departments.
• Other assignments as required by the Purchasing Manager.
• Abide by and enforce ethical practice in dealings with company suppliers.
