About The Position

VSI is a leading distributor in the animal health industry, providing top-quality products and solutions that support veterinarians, retailers, and producers nationwide. We’re looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing Agent II to join our team and help us maintain strong vendor relationships, optimize inventory, and ensure our customers always get the products they need. As a Purchasing Agent II, you’ll play a key role in negotiating competitive pricing, managing vendor partnerships, and monitoring inventory levels. This is a mid-level role where you’ll balance analytical problem-solving with cross-team collaboration to keep our supply chain running smoothly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 4+ years of experience in purchasing or supply chain, ideally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and business software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to multitask under pressure.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (some travel may be required).

  • Associate degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage vendor and supplier relationships, negotiating pricing and terms.
  • Prepare and process purchase requisitions in line with budget guidelines.
  • Monitor inventory levels, sales data, and market trends to maintain proper stock.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable, Sales, and Marketing teams to ensure accurate vendor/product information.
  • Resolve issues related to freight disputes, vendor claims, and defective products.
  • Maintain accurate product and vendor data in company systems.
  • Identify obsolete or overstock items and develop strategies to reduce them.
  • Support departmental goals by creating purchasing programs and process improvements.
  • Represent VSI professionally with both internal teams and external partners.
