About The Position

The Buyer / Planner is responsible for ensuring material availability to support production while managing supplier performance, lead times, and risk. This role integrates demand planning and purchasing execution to drive supply continuity, reduce shortages, and improve supplier accountability. The Buyer / Planner owns Tier 1 suppliers and high-impact materials, serving as the primary point of contact between Velocity, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. This role requires judgment, urgency, and strong cross-functional communication.

Requirements

  • 3–7 years of experience in purchasing, material planning, or supply chain operations
  • Experience managing suppliers and negotiating delivery commitments
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in inventory management systems, purchasing software, and ERP systems.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Translate production schedules and demand signals into actionable supply plans
  • Analyze MRP outputs and adjust based on real supplier constraints
  • Identify potential shortages and proactively mitigate risk
  • Maintain accurate lead times and planning parameters
  • Serve as primary owner for assigned strategic suppliers
  • Confirm pricing, lead times, and order commitments
  • Drive accountability for on-time delivery and quality
  • Escalate and resolve performance issues
  • Issue and manage purchase orders for assigned materials
  • Monitor open orders and ensure delivery alignment with build schedules
  • Expedite, de-expedite, and reschedule as necessary
  • Maintain ERP data integrity related to purchasing
  • Respond to late deliveries, shortages, and quality concerns
  • Balance cost, service, and operational impact in decision-making
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and finance to resolve supply issues
  • Participate in supplier reviews and corrective action follow-up
  • Improve planning assumptions and supplier performance
  • Reduce expedites and emergency buys
  • Support process improvement initiatives in purchasing and material planning
  • Contribute to vendor scorecard and QBR preparation
