About The Position

Haddad Plumbing and Heating Inc. is seeking a Purchaser for its headquarters in Newark, New Jersey. The Purchaser sources and purchases materials and equipment, manages vendor negotiations, issues and verifies purchase orders, controls costs, and coordinates deliveries to meet project schedules. The role calls for strong organization, attention to detail, vendor relationship skills, and the ability to work independently while supervising purchasing support staff. The Purchaser reports directly to the Purchasing Manager and contributes to cost control, material availability, and project execution.

This is a full-time position. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Three years of purchasing experience; plumbing and HVAC-related industry experience is preferred.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Exceptional organizational and follow-up skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Procure materials and equipment by negotiating costs, delivery schedules, and terms with vendors.
• Issue purchase orders and verify their costs against project estimates.
• Track and manage purchase orders, expediting them as needed.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal team members and vendors.
• Confirm vendor acknowledgments and ensure punctual deliveries.
• Follow up on and promptly resolve back-order and return issues.
• Identify and evaluate new vendors to improve the cost and quality of materials and equipment.
• Participate in project meetings to understand delivery schedules.
• Train and guide the assistant purchaser and purchasing clerk in their tasks.
• Verify and monitor purchases and work performed by the assistant purchaser.
• Meet daily with the assistant purchaser and purchasing clerk to ensure work is completed accurately.
