About The Position

The Pumphouse Operator III is an advanced technical position responsible for the safe, reliable, and independent operation of Purgatory Resort’s snowmaking pumphouse, booster system, and associated water and compressed-air systems. The operator runs, monitors, and optimizes pumps, compressors, VFDs, cooling systems, controls, automation, snowmaking additive treatment systems, and related equipment in response to changing snowmaking demand and field conditions. The role includes independently starting up, operating, adjusting, and shutting down systems; interpreting system performance; troubleshooting complex conditions; and coordinating with Snowmaking Crew Leads and field crews. Operators are expected to identify developing problems, stabilize operations, perform authorized advanced troubleshooting, and escalate issues when needed. They also serve as advanced technical resources, assist with equipment diagnosis and repair, and train and mentor less-experienced operators while following established procedures, equipment protections, and department standards. This is a seasonal position. Employment dates may vary based on weather, snowmaking needs, applicant availability, and business needs. The role is based at Purgatory Resort in Durango, Colorado, and offers a free season pass for the employee and dependents. Work is primarily indoors in the pumphouse, booster facility, and associated equipment areas, with occasional outdoor work in mountainous terrain and winter weather. The position involves industrial operating conditions, including noise, vibration, heat, cold, moisture, chemicals, high-pressure systems, electrical equipment, and rotating machinery. Employees must be available for nights, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, and variable schedules as snowmaking operations require.
