About The Position

The Pump Mechanic performs job functions under the supervision of the Superintendent and is generally responsible for repairing pumps and motors at lift stations and water plants. The position requires availability at any hour during emergencies and being on call every other week.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License.
• Valid State of Texas Class II Collections license.
• Available 24 hours and on call every other week.
• Knowledge of computer software and programs.
• Intermediate ability to repair and diagnose water pumps, sewage pumps, pump and motor electrical systems, floats, and switches.
• Ability to read technical and other written materials; perform practical calculations involving fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, and measurement; and write reports and business documents with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds alone and up to 100 pounds with assistance, and to stand, stoop, kneel, or sit for long periods.
• Ability to climb in and out of confined areas and climb heights greater than 100 feet.
• Ability to use independent judgment, multitask in a team environment with minimal supervision, and deal professionally and courteously with internal and external customers.
• Ability to understand engineer and supervisor drawings, adapt to new technology and changing conditions, and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to obtain licenses and certifications needed to perform work assignments.
• Must pass a background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening. A motor vehicle record check and job-related doctor's physical exam may also be required.

Responsibilities

• Repair and diagnose water pumps, sewage pumps, pump and motor electrical systems, floats, and switches.
• Operate light construction equipment and a bucket truck.
• Respond at any hour during emergencies when requested.
• Complete assigned work as needed, including working the hours required.
• Follow City of Conroe and departmental policies and procedures.
