About The Position

The Town of Apex is seeking a skilled Pump Maintenance Electronic Technician to help keep our water and wastewater operations running safely, reliably, and efficiently. This role involves troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing critical electronic systems, with a focus on SCADA systems at wastewater pumping stations. The position also assists with data collection for asset management and performance metrics.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years of experience

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a NC Collections Grade 1 Certification or the ability to obtain this certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • NFPA 70E Certification or the ability to obtain this certification with six (6) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex skilled and technical work in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of instrumentation and electrical/electronic control systems (SCADA) at the Town’s wastewater pumping stations and associated infrastructure.
  • Manages all facets of Pump Maintenance SCADA programming.
  • Assists the Pump Maintenance Field Crew Supervisor with data collection related to asset management, pump drawdowns, flow charts, weekly generator runs, monthly station reports, and other performance metrics.
  • Monitors SCADA daily for issues and trends; communicates issues to Pump Maintenance team in a timely manner.
  • Designs, tests, implements, maintains, and repairs SCADA system.
  • Serves as key contact with SCADA and automation vendors.
  • Compiles data and completes reports on station performance metrics.
  • Performs periodic calibration and observation checks of meters, chart recorders, electronic control valves, circuit boards, motor control centers, pumps, motors, and complicated instrumentation equipment.
  • Manages Pump Maintenance asset management program.
  • Manages weekly generator runs and troubleshoots generator issues.
  • Manages generator preventative and predictive maintenance program.
  • Manages drawdown data.
  • Maintains automatic controls at all Town pump stations and associated infrastructure.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on all electrical and electronic equipment, including emergency generators.
  • Makes recommendations on equipment or instrumentation needed for use in upcoming budgets.
  • Provides input on technical equipment specifications relating to future projects or expansion involving pump maintenance and treatment plant design plans.
  • Maintains all records associated with asset management, instrumentation, and performance metrics.
  • Responds to failure in any of the electrical systems and makes necessary replacements or repairs.
  • Performs equipment upgrades and modifications.
  • Purchases electrical and electronic material or equipment as necessary.
  • Installs new equipment; pulls new service connections for motors, etc.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as required.
