About The Position

Patients with complex lung disease need a clinician who can move from first visit to a clear plan without delay. In this role, you own the day-to-day pulmonary care that keeps people breathing easier, out of the hospital, and on a path they understand. You will work beside board-certified pulmonologists, translating test results and symptoms into decisions that change outcomes.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited PA program and current NCCPA certification, with an active state license and DEA registration (or eligibility) before start.
  • At least two years of pulmonary, critical care, hospital medicine, or closely related experience managing COPD, asthma, and hypoxemic respiratory failure.
  • Demonstrated skill interpreting PFTs and ABGs and adjusting oxygen and inhaler regimens to objective targets.
  • Procedural competence, or recent supervised experience, in thoracentesis and arterial sampling, with willingness to complete service privileging.
  • Clear written and spoken communication with patients who have low health literacy, and accurate same-day documentation.
  • Current BLS and ACLS.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage a full panel of outpatient pulmonary patients—COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and sleep-related breathing disorders—so visit plans are complete before the patient leaves.
  • Lead inpatient pulmonary consults and follow-up, delivering timely recommendations that shorten length of stay and reduce avoidable readmissions.
  • Interpret spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion studies, and overnight oximetry, and adjust inhaled therapy, oxygen, and noninvasive ventilation to documented targets.
  • Coordinate diagnostic pathways—imaging, labs, and procedure referrals—so suspected malignancy, infection, and progressive fibrosis are worked up without gaps.
  • Perform or assist approved procedures (thoracentesis, arterial blood gas, bronchoscopy support) within privileging, with complication rates at or below service benchmarks.
  • Close the loop with primary care, respiratory therapy, and pulmonary rehab so treatment changes, oxygen orders, and follow-up are documented the same day.
  • Contribute to quality reviews on exacerbation management, steroid stewardship, and tobacco cessation, and act on the findings in your own panel.
