About The Position

The Pulmonary Lab Respiratory Care Practitioner Per Diem will provide all aspects of therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care based on established standards. This includes administering oxygen therapy, performing diagnostic tests, and maintaining/operating pulmonary function equipment. The role also involves responding to emergency situations, attending meetings, and participating in the training of students and other practitioners. Quality Improvement activities in pulmonary areas are also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Licensed by the State of New Jersey Board of Respiratory Care as a Respiratory Care Practitioner and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Three (3) years of experience in respiratory therapy or Certified/Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist by NBRC.
  • Requires excellent judgment and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated competency in all pulmonary function procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served; the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs; a knowledge of growth and development and an understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients.
  • Demonstrated competency in the care and treatment of the following age groups: Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric.
  • BLS Certification required, as approved by the American Heart Association.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) obtained within 30 days of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Provide all aspects of therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care based on established standards.
  • Administer oxygen therapy according to policy and procedure.
  • Perform diagnostic tests according to policy and procedure as appropriate to the ages of the patient’s growth and development through the life cycle factors (Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adult, and Geriatrics).
  • Maintain, evaluate and operate pulmonary function equipment.
  • Respond to emergency situations in Hospital as appropriate to the ages of the patient’s growth and development through the life cycle factors (Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adult, and Geriatrics).
  • Attend and participate in education and Department meetings.
  • Participate in the training and monitoring of respiratory students during their clinical rotation at Saint Peter’s University Hospital.
  • Provide guidance, assistance and instruction to registry-eligible Care Practitioners and Respiratory Care Trainers on therapeutic and technical questions as appropriate to the ages of the patient’s growth and development through the life cycle factors (Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adult, and Geriatrics).
  • Be responsible for Quality Improvement activities in pulmonary areas.
