About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This role will be responsible for providing pulmonary diagnostics in accordance with nationally accepted standards. A sampling of some of the procedures that may be performed includes, but is not limited to, screening and performing pulmonary function testing with and without bronchodilator, lung diffusion, full body plethysmography, meth choline challenge testing, point of care testing, and oximetry and patient education. The role requires knowledge of pulmonary lab equipment in detail, including its structure, function, the indications for its use and its physiological effect upon the patient; basic maintenance procedures for all equipment utilized; the anatomy and physiology of respiration, both normal and abnormal, as it applies to the procedures performed; and disease and pathological conditions to which exposed.

Requirements

  • A degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited respiratory care program is required; minimum associate degree or the equivalent as defined by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Respiratory Therapists must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of all procedures, indications, contraindications and hazards involved in respiratory care, as well as knowledge of equipment utilized in their department.
  • The incumbent must be able to demonstrate the ability and knowledge required to utilize computers for patient documentation and data gathering for quality care.
  • Must complete orientations, competency validations, and other in-servicing as required by the department and hospital.
  • Must be actively credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Registered Pulmonary Function Technician.
  • Must have current Respiratory Therapy licensure in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
  • Must obtain site specific specialty credential(s) such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), etc.
