About The Position

Under general supervision of the Pullman Assistant Dean, the Retention Specialist will support the Pullman administrator, Pullman Student Services staff, the Spokane Falls Community College Academic Advising department, the SFCC GPS team, and the Pullman ABE/HS+ Lead by scheduling student appointments, communicating with students, paperwork flow, data entry, and monitoring student progress with the Pullman Team to achieve student progression and success. This position serves as a designated student officer for international students at Pullman, including advising on admissions, immigration, travel, insurance, I-20, and OPT, and is a generalist for Pullman students in a variety of academic pathways. This position assists prospective and current students and their advisors in the process of planning for a program of study designed to achieve the students’ academic goals and coordinates and supports program admissions as needed. Responsible for the admission to the enrollment process, including managing, monitoring, and evaluating the new student funnel for the conversion of prospects at the Pullman Center. For retention, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the progression of matriculated students with main office colleagues, the Pullman Faculty Advisor, and the Pullman Center Manager. Finally, this position is the primary coordinator for Pullman students’ completion and transfer exploration and services.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution. Or an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in a customer service role and/or a student services position.
  • Experience in a higher education setting, especially a community college.
  • Knowledge of FERPA.
  • Additional knowledge of Spokane Colleges or Washington State policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with degrees/certificates and/or admission/registration cycles.
  • Experience using a student management system.

Responsibilities

  • Support Global Education’s international students
  • Serve as Designated Student Officer (DSO) at SFCC Pullman.
  • Monitor and support international student admission and progression, including class attendance, GPA, payments, I-20 validity, mental health and well-being services, and transfer support.
  • Coordinate access to and participation in relevant events at Spokane Colleges and WSU Pullman and organize activities for international students at Pullman Center.
  • Support persistence to degree completion
  • Serve as Guided Pathways Specialist at SFCC Pullman.
  • Monitor Pullman student records for retention and progression, including completion of First Year Experience (FYE) 105, sub-plan coding, and graduation application.
  • Manage outreach efforts with the Pullman main office and the SFCC Academic Advising department in quarterly campaigns.
  • Respond to student inquiries, informing students about certificates and degrees, entrance requirements, etc.
  • Communicate with students via Zoom, email, or in person.
  • Assist students, GPS colleagues, and academic advisors with registration, other processes associated with education planning, and completing any necessary paperwork and transactions.
  • Serve as point-person for students within their respective Pathway, refer students to services and resources on- and off-campus as appropriate.
  • Work with the student management system; monitor student progress, contact students, and assist them to complete transactions
  • Support the work of faculty advisors and counselors within the Pathway
  • Support Pullman student onboarding
  • Serve as CRM expert user at SFCC Pullman; coordinate, develop, and report on campaign cycles.
  • Support and advise Pullman colleagues on the use of CRM.
  • Coordinate the use of CRM with SFCC Spokane colleagues and offices.
  • Support student recruitment Prospect recruitment and student registration; program orientations and onboarding.
  • Calling campaigns; Mass text/emails to students; Registration reminders.
  • Ongoing student group support.
  • Support Pullman student transfer coordination
  • Serve as primary transfer contact for SFCC Pullman students.
  • Plan, coordinate, and host two or more annual transfer events focused on WSU, including other area colleges as appropriate.
  • Promote transfer events among Pullman students and faculty, and with WSU advising and academic teams. Produce print and digital materials to support these efforts.
  • Coordinate with Pullman Assistant Dean on cultivating relationships with area partners for Pullman student transfer success.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and offices at SFCC Spokane to monitor and, whenever necessary, adopt changes in policies and practices. Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions.
  • Comply with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Support and advance Spokane Colleges’ strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned.
