About The Position

NEON is seeking Fall 2026 Publicity Interns for its NY & LA offices. This internship program is designed for undergraduate students looking to gain practical experience in the independent film industry. Interns will work closely with the Publicity team, participate in structured programming, gain cross-functional exposure across the company, and engage in professional development. The program offers hands-on experience in film distribution, marketing, publicity, acquisitions, digital distribution, and theatrical sales, tailored to individual interests. Interns will be mentored by industry professionals and gain valuable connections and confidence.

Requirements

  • Must be an undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited college/university.
  • Strong interest in film, publicity, talent relations, and the independent film space.
  • Must be proficient with Photoshop and Premiere.
  • Must be comfortable working with press clippings, Google Docs/Sheets.
  • Solid writing and communication skills. Ability to draft emails, press materials, or coverage reports clearly and professionally.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented. Comfortable tracking press breaks, building media lists, and managing deadlines.
  • Proactive and resourceful, not afraid to take initiative, ask questions, contribute ideas, jump in where needed, or dive into research projects.
  • Must be available to work in person three days per week for the duration of the internship.
  • Must be available to work from August 31, 2026, to December 18, 2026.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in festivals and awards campaigns is a bonus.
  • Previous internship or experience in PR, communications, journalism, or film is helpful but not required.
  • Cultural literacy and a curiosity to engage with publicity and marketing campaigns.
  • Experience with tools like Cision or Muck Rack is a plus.
  • Familiarity with NEON’s films and a general understanding of how press and buzz are built around a release.
  • Candidates with prior internship or working experience in communications or public relations are highly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the publicity team with administrative documents, including status reports, RSVP documents, screening requests, critics' grids, calendars, agendas, and press request grids.
  • Adapt schedules for breaks, reviews, and reaction memos based on screening schedules, especially during festival and awards season.
  • Maintain talent schedules for press days and upcoming events with keen attention to detail.
  • Format and organize press breaks and reviews for all titles.
  • Research and collect title-specific news coverage and online reactions, then format them into related documents (e.g. Reaction Memo, Press Breaks, Reviews).
  • Draft screening reports for specific titles and awards screenings.
  • Create and edit email blasts and social media materials using Photoshop and Premiere.
  • Coordinate phone interviews for talent and filmmakers.
  • Provide assistance to the Publicity team, particularly in managing special projects and administrative tasks.
  • Provide support for special events and screenings as necessary.
