About The Position

The City of Saint Paul Public Works is hiring multiple Public Works Technician III's to perform advanced engineering technician work in the following areas. Here's what you can expect to do: Sewer Division: Located - 700 City Hall Annex, Works: Monday - Friday 7 - 3:30pm Inspects materials and construction projects related to sewer infrastructure. Provides technical assistance to engineers in planning, design, inspection, and maintenance of sewer projects. Performs construction observation and inspection for sewer-related projects. Reviews utility plans for sewer conflicts and represents the Sewer Utility in third-party utility plan review meetings. Traffic Operations - Located: 899 Dale Street N., Works: Monday - Friday 7:30 - 4:00pm Oversees GSOC (Gopher State Once Call) and utility-locating operations, including utility tickets, coordination, resolving utility conflicts, and regulatory compliance. Manages GIS, CAD, and asset data, including mapping, records, field data reconciliation, and data products. Plans and supervises traffic studies and field data collection, including quality control, documentation, and reporting. Supervises and develops staff, including work assignments, scheduling, training, performance management, hiring, and compliance with policies and labor agreements. Manages equipment, technology, purchasing, budget, and operational improvements to support efficient service delivery. Land Survey Division: Located - 1000 City Hall Annex, Works: Monday - Friday 6:30 - 3:00pm This position is a mix of field and office-based technical work Supports construction and corridor/design work and coordinating with field crews to identify and resolve survey or construction issues. Processes, analyzes, and quality-checks survey data and developing efficient workflows for handling field data, models, corridors, and other survey deliverables. Troubleshoots survey equipment, software, data, and workflows and helping resolve more complex technical problems. Serves as a technical resource for the Division by helping staff with surveying technology, data processing, field procedures, and problem solving. Helps improve and streamline our surveying processes through new technology, innovative techniques, standardized procedures, and training/mentoring of staff. Street Construction Inspection - Located: 900 City Hall Annex, Works: Monday - Friday 6:30 - 3:00pm or 7:00 - 3:30pm (may require occasional over-time.) Inspects Public Works construction projects to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, standards, and contract requirements. Conducts daily field inspections, documenting contractor operations, progress, materials, quantities, workmanship, and compliance. Reviews plans and contract documents, identifies construction issues, and assists with resolving field conflicts, schedule concerns, and necessary modifications. Maintains accurate project records, including inspection documentation, quantities, correspondence, and payment support. Coordinates with contractors, utilities, property owners, businesses, residents, and the public, including facilitating weekly construction progress meetings. ADA Compliance in Street Engineering and Construction (SEC) Division - Located: 900 City Hall Annex, Works: Monday - Friday 6:30 - 3:00pm Inspects Public Works construction projects to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, standards, and contract requirements. Conducts daily field inspections, documenting contractor operations, progress, materials, quantities, workmanship, and compliance. Reviews plans and contract documents, identifies construction issues, and assists with resolving field conflicts, schedule concerns, and field modifications. Maintains project records and supports contractor payments through accurate documentation of construction quantities and project progress. Coordinates with contractors, utilities, property owners, businesses, residents, and the public; performs ADA compliance inspections and trains staff on ADA requirements and construction documentation. Requirements

Four years of experience performing intermediate level engineering technician work to include inspecting, investigating, drafting, administering, or designing public works projects.
Twenty-four post-secondary credits in technical classes and three years of experience performing intermediate level engineering technician work to include inspecting, investigating, drafting, administering, or designing public works projects.
Depending on assignment you must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
