About The Position

This is an adaptable position that covers various positions within the Public Works Division as needed. The position will include driving Transit buses, school buses, Road’s equipment, and assisting the Facilities Management Department and Water and Sewer Department as deemed necessary by Administration. This position regularly scheduled workday will follow the established policies for the Red Cliff Band’s “Work Week”. Schedules requiring working early hours, nights, weekends and holidays or as weather dictates will need to follow procedures identified in the employee handbook.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum of high school diploma, HSED or GED required.
  • Applicant MUST possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.
  • A Valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s Class A or B driver’s license with air brake is required within six months of hire.
  • Passenger endorsement REQUIRED within same time frame.
  • Must be eligible to be put on the tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Ability to operate equipment and machinery, such as snowplow, sander, dump truck, tractor, front end loader, passenger transit bus, and common hand and power tools.
  • In addition to the Red Cliff Tribal drug free workplace policies this position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Department of Transportation rules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, as well as the ability to follow specific instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate using telephone, and two-way radios.
  • Good computer skills are required for bus pick up’s and drop off’s.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, night/dusk vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required for interaction with members of the public and Tribal employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work experience is preferred.
  • Experience driving various types of equipment is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in building maintenance, construction, plumbing, or electrical work is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Eligible maintenance workers may receive cross-training to support the Public Works Division. This cross-training will help ensure that the Public Works Division has adequate staffing to handle emergencies and workload fluctuations, while also providing maintenance workers with valuable new skills and career development opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Operates transit vehicles.
  • Follows policies and procedures set forth by Bay Area Rural Transit.
  • Perform routine and preventative equipment maintenance
  • Operates a variety of equipment for ice and snow removal.
  • Performs routine and preventative transportation facilities maintenance to include road surface grading, vegetation control, traffic control device and drainage facility maintenance.
  • Work as part of the Facilities Maintenance team, following direction and contributing to a positive work environment.
  • Assist in maintaining all aspects of tribal properties, including grounds, sidewalks, parking lots, common areas, interior and exterior of buildings, and all department equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs, such as caulking, minor electrical repairs (e.g., replacing switches, fuses), unplugging sinks and toilets, faucet repair and replacement, wall preparation/patching, painting, and appliance repair.
  • Report any physical breakdowns, damage, repairs, or liabilities related to facilities maintenance to the Supervisor.
  • Document and respond to work orders as assigned.
  • Maintain grounds throughout seasonal changes, including lawn care, landscaping, and snow/ice removal.
  • Perform various maintenance tasks as directed by the Public Works Administrator and/or Director of Water and Sewer.
  • Recording data on water and sewer pumps and maintenance schedules.
  • Performance of pump, vehicle, and equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Must be able to maintain and operate all equipment.
  • Perform underground line locates and markings to standards.
  • Locate and exercise valves, curb shut offs and hydrants.
  • Mark in GPS to be used in mapping.
  • Be available for scheduled maintenance work and on call outside of normal working hours.
  • Perform physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
  • Eligible maintenance workers may receive cross-training to support the Public Works Division.
