About The Position

Under basic supervision, inspects park play areas and equipment for safety hazards, structural damage, and compliance with national standards. Maintains park facilities and grounds and follows all safety rules and regulations; works independently and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience; leads, schedules and instructs work crews. Responsible for building maintenance, irrigation, ornamental landscape, and basic construction. Enforces rules and regulations; assists with training new staff; reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries; performs emergency cleaning and maintenance work as directed. Operates a city vehicle equipped with tools, testing instruments, and safety equipment to travel to various work sites, perform inspections, and ensure compliance. May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City wide emergency.

Requirements

H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent
2 years general trades, park maintenance, or construction experience, or related field
Valid Texas Driver's License
Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) is required within 1 Year

Responsibilities

Conducts routine and comprehensive audits of swings, slides, climbers, and surrounding infrastructure.
Checks for entrapment risks, sharp protrusions, worn hardware, rusted bolts, and broken components.
Measures and monitors the depth of protective ground surfaces like wood mulch, rubber tiles, or pour-in-place rubber to cushion falls.
Maintains park facilities and grounds and follows all safety rules and regulations.
Works independently and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience.
Leads, schedules and instructs work crews.
Records findings with written notes and photos, logging maintenance needs or immediate closure requests.
Works with park maintenance teams to fix or remove damaged equipment.
Responsible for building maintenance, irrigation, ornamental landscape, and basic construction.
Enforces rules and regulations.
Assists with training new staff.
Reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
