About The Position

Perform routine manual labor and operate light equipment with minimal supervision at Township facilities. Operate light equipment with minimal supervision that may include push mowers and related landscape equipment for mowing operations, ball field maintenance, playground maintenance, pavilion maintenance, landscape maintenance, pool maintenance and spreading of materials. Perform a variety of maintenance projects on parks, and other public areas in accordance with demands, weather emergencies and department priorities. Maintain conditions of parks, facilities and other public areas, tree and landscape maintenance, and athletic field and court maintenance. Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks on township vehicles, equipment and facilities that might include tasks such as wash and wax vehicles and report problems requiring attention. Attend safety training seminars and participate in on-the-job training to develop skills and knowledge.

Requirements

• Knowledge or the ability to learn light equipment operating procedures.
• Knowledge or the ability to learn general maintenance procedures for light equipment.
• Knowledge or the ability to learn basic practices and procedures for landscape and park maintenance.
• Knowledge or the ability to learn safety practices and procedures for equipment and tools.
• Knowledge or the ability to learn department policy, procedures and work rules.
• Demonstrated skill in the operation of light equipment with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated skill in use of power tools that might include mowers, edgers, hedge & string trimmers.
• Demonstrated skill in use of manual tools that might include hand saws, picks, hammers, shovels, rakes, and brooms.
• Ability to work independently but remain flexible in accordance with demands of schedule and work team in order to achieve department objectives.
• Ability to adhere to safety standards and recognize safety warnings and hazards.
• Ability to read written instructions.
• Ability to measure distances, add, subtract, multiply and divide.
• Ability to demonstrate physical fitness, to include frequent moderate weight lifting (up to 50 lbs.), standing and walking for long periods of time, frequent bending and reaching, pulling or pushing.
• Ability to demonstrate clear vision during the day, and sound hearing to avoid possible hazards, including moving vehicles and road equipment.
• Ability to demonstrate polite and courteous manner toward fellow employees and Township customers.
