About The Position

Operate construction equipment for routine maintenance and reconstruction tasks on county gravel roads in the Rockport area. This position will report directly to Rockport. The role involves 80% field work, requiring proficiency in operating a motor grader and a broad knowledge of heavy equipment for gravel road maintenance and snow removal. The employee must be able to perform work independently, follow detailed instructions, and communicate effectively via radio and with the public. Approximately 10% of the role involves administrative tasks, including basic computer skills for reporting data, organizing and scheduling work, and maintaining professional relationships. The remaining 10% includes other duties as assigned, such as responding to emergency events, potential lead worker responsibilities, and assisting with snow removal operations. The position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two years of heavy or light equipment operation including motor grader experience.
  • Valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License, Class A with tanker endorsement required or ability to obtain license within specified time frame agreed upon hire.
  • Ability to be MSHA certified.
  • Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Write simple correspondence.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one situations with the public, subordinates, and supervisors.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic operations using units of money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Pass a background check prior to employment start date.
  • Pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date.
  • Participate in random substance use screening.
  • Pass a physical demands evaluation post offer screen compatible to this position.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy and light construction or road maintenance equipment, including a motor grader.

Benefits

  • Compensation Range $29.30 - $38.10
