About The Position

The St. Johns County Public Works Department maintains, preserves and protects the infrastructure resources of the County in the most efficient and effective manner possible. Public Works is made up of Engineering Services, Fleet Maintenance, Traffic Systems, Road and Bridge and Solid Waste. Employees work in a team oriented environment in a variety of divisions with two common goals in mind: to provide the best services to our citizens and to provide the best maintained infrastructure in North Florida. The newly selected Senior Geographic Information Systems Coordinator is responsible for providing technical leadership for the sustainability of the County-wide geographic information system program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Geographic Information Systems, or a related course of study to the occupational field.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the major duties of subordinate positions, usually interpreted to require at least ten (10) years of progressively responsible GIS project or database management experience and five (5) years of direct supervisory management of professional and/or technical staff.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to serve others.
  • Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
  • Must be able to operate a computer.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, supervise, evaluate, discipline and plan the work for the Geographic Information Systems staff.
  • Prioritizes, assigns, and reviews work to ensure efficient division operations.
  • Assesses and monitors workloads.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Recommend and implement changes.
  • Collaborate with the GIS Manager to develop a comprehensive project outline for the design and implementation of the County’s GIS needs.
  • Evaluates county needs and technology trends for appropriate applications.
  • Administers the access to GIS data layers.
  • Develops standard procedures for maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in development and maintenance of County disaster recovery plan(s).
  • Develops and implements quality assurance and quality control procedures to ensure accurate GIS data.
  • Maintains documents, charts and reports for scheduling and production.
  • Assists with other County organizations’ fixed asset management, as requested.
  • Assists in the preparation of the GIS budget.
  • Monitors and controls expenditures.
  • Assists vendors and third-party staff with meeting performance standards according to contracts and agreements.
  • Communicates to stakeholders and ensures project success.
  • Maintains a full-time presence on the job.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
