About The Position

The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Public Services Worker I in our Public Services Department. This role involves performing various street maintenance duties, including grass cutting, tree trimming, sidewalk maintenance, storm drainage maintenance, and ditch and ROW maintenance. The position may also involve tasks related to the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, storm drains, graffiti removal, and traffic signs. Responsibilities include cleaning streets by picking up trash and debris, cleaning ditches and drains, and performing minor repairs on City buildings. The worker will complete assigned work orders, review maintenance route lists, daily hour logs, and vehicle preventative maintenance checklists, and prepare necessary records and reports. They will refer to equipment operator's manuals, policy and procedure manuals, and codes/laws/regulations. The role requires the use of various equipment and tools such as lightweight trucks, shovels, rakes, lawn mowers, axes, chain saws, and weed eaters. Additional duties include general administrative tasks like preparing reports and correspondence, data entry, filing, and answering phones. The position also requires participation in required training and continuing education to maintain certifications and stay current on codes and ordinances. The worker will assist other staff when needed, stay current on departmental policies, and ensure work is completed accurately, safely, and efficiently. Maintaining assigned equipment, a clean work area, and identifying/reporting improvements are also key. Professionalism, excellent customer service, strong ethical conduct, integrity, and accountability are expected. The role supports a culture of results, communication, and professional collaboration, and may represent the department at community events. Adherence to the Employee Handbook and policies, along with regular, reliable attendance, is mandatory. Other duties as assigned will also be part of the role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

  • Performs various street maintenance duties such as cutting grass and trimming trees, sidewalk maintenance, storm drainage maintenance, and ditch and ROW maintenance.
  • May perform a variety of tasks in the construction, modification, maintenance and repair of streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, storm drains, graffiti removal, and traffic signs.
  • Cleans streets by picking up trash and debris and cleaning ditches and drains.
  • Performs minor repairs on City buildings as needed.
  • Completes assigned work orders provided by the Public Services Supervisor or Crew Team Leader on a regular basis.
  • Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as maintenance route lists, daily hour logs, and vehicle preventative maintenance checklist.
  • Prepares and/or processes records and reports as needed.
  • Refers to equipment operator’s manuals, policy and procedure manuals, codes/laws/regulations, etc.
  • Uses a variety of equipment and tools such as lightweight trucks, shovels, rakes, lawn mower, axes, chain saws, weed eater, and various other supplies in the performance of job duties.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Performs general administrative tasks as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, filing records, and answering phones.
  • Participates in required training and continuing education to obtain and maintain certifications and stay current on changes in codes and ordinances.
  • Assists other officers and staff when workload, emergencies, or special assignments require.
  • Stays current on departmental policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Completes work accurately, safely, and efficiently; maintains assigned equipment in good working condition.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Identifies and reports suggested improvements or areas of concern to the Supervisor.
  • Ensures professionalism and excellent customer service in all interactions while representing the City of Greer.
  • Demonstrates strong ethical conduct, integrity, and accountability with coworkers, customers, and the community.
  • Supports a culture of results, communication, and professional collaboration within the department and across the organization.
  • Represents the department at community events or meetings when requested by the Supervisor.
