About The Position

The Public Services Manager provides a broad range of administrative and supervisory functions. This role involves providing in-person, online, phone, and email reference service to library patrons, including students, faculty, staff, and the larger Grant County community. The manager co-leads the reference department with the Access Services Librarian, overseeing statistics, assessment of reference services, and coordination of reference procedures. Responsibilities also include maintaining print subscription collections, assisting with library instruction and outreach, recommending materials for purchase, and supervising student assistants. The role involves working with the Digitization Team to digitize and catalog archival material, participating in library and WNMU committees, and creating displays to promote library resources. Additionally, the manager supervises assigned staff in accordance with WNMU personnel practices, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and guidance. The position requires ongoing personal and professional development, maintaining comprehensive communication, and modeling professional standards and ethics.

  • Assists the Instruction / Outreach Librarian with library instruction and outreach as necessary.
  • Recommends materials for purchase in assigned subject categories.
  • Hires, supervises, trains WNMU student assistants as necessary.
  • Works with the Digitization Team (Access Librarian & Digital Initiatives Librarian) to digitize and catalog archival material.
  • Participates in library & WNMU committees.
  • Creates displays promoting library resources.
