About The Position

This position is for a Public Services Associate II Floater in the West Region, requiring the ability to work in multiple branch locations. The role involves assisting patrons with various library services, including locating materials, recommending titles, and providing reference assistance. The associate will also help patrons with computer usage, library website navigation, and troubleshooting technical issues. Circulation services, program development and presentation, and collection management activities are also key responsibilities. The role requires recording and reporting statistics, informing patrons of library policies, and creating book reviews and lists. The associate must be able to work the scheduled hours, cope with job-related stress, and be available for day, evening, and weekend hours, including occasional mandatory Sundays.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or Library Technical Assistant Degree
  • Indiana State Librarian Certificate 5 – Professional Assistant; or working towards certification
  • Ability to work in multiple locations throughout the Indy PL system.
  • Available to work day, evening, and weekend hours - including at least 6 Sundays per year.
  • Able to navigate basic computer functions, including Microsoft Word, Excel, internet browsing.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patrons with various library services, including finding library materials, recommending titles, locating library materials at other branches, placing requests and referring to other community resources.
  • Provides quick reference and in-depth reference assistance and research to patrons, referring certain subject-specific reference questions to Librarians assigned to those collections.
  • Provides assistance and instruction to patrons in using computers, IndyPL website, downloadable services, databases, online catalog, printers and other equipment. Troubleshoots a wide variety of technical issues with computers, mobile devices, digital services and other office equipment.
  • Provides circulation services to patrons.
  • Develops, promotes, and presents programming both within the branch and in the community served.
  • Assists with collection management activities including wanding, CollectionHQ reports, weeding and general maintenance as assigned. Sorts and shelves materials as needed. Evaluates materials for condition and usefulness and discards accordingly.
  • Creates and maintains displays and promotional materials as needed.
  • Records and reports statistics related to tasks including reference assistance, use of materials, program attendance and community contacts.
  • Informs patrons of library policies and procedures; observes patron activity.
  • Creates monthly and quarterly book reviews and lists for Bibliocommons.
  • Able to work the normally scheduled work time for this position.
  • Able to cope with daily job-related stress.
