About The Position

The Illinois Office of the Comptroller is seeking applicants for the position of Public Service Administrator - IT - Database Administrator. The Comptroller is the chief fiscal control officer for the Illinois government, charged by the Constitution with maintaining the state’s central fiscal accounts and ordering payments into and out of the appropriate funds. The office processes more than 16 million transactions annually and serves as a “fiscal watchdog” to ensure that all state payments meet the requirements of the law. The Comptroller’s office provides meaningful and timely fiscal information to help state policymakers adopt effective policies. The office continually seeks new ways to improve how it serves the public. The Comptroller has updated and streamlined the Comptroller’s website and has led the process of updating the state’s payroll and accounting systems. Comptroller Mendoza is committed to running the Office of Comptroller as a financial watchdog for the interest of Illinois citizens and to installing the most modern and transparent systems to make the state’s financial information available to all.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in information systems; Computer Science; mathematics; statistics; public administration or business administration or a related degree with coursework specific to information technology.
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative experience work with MVS Mainframe and DB2, including expertise in utilities, SQL writing and optimization, database creation and management.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers professional experience in database administration with both DB2 on z/OS and SQL server.
  • Prefers experience participating on technical project teams.
  • Prefers document management and MS SQL administration certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and maintains database systems to meet organizational requirements, including extracting and/or loading data.
  • Monitors database performance, troubleshoots issues for optimal performance and availability, and configures servers and databases.
  • Contributes to optimization of database systems for efficiency and scalability, including monitoring the performance of hardware and software, and ensuring all hardware and software are updated.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to integrate databases into applications and systems, providing technical support and guidance on database-related matters.
  • Participates in development and implementation backup and recovery strategies to protect critical data, preserving data integrity, and authenticating data.
  • Evaluates and recommends database technologies, tools, and methodologies for enhancing capabilities.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties.
