About The Position

Nemours is seeking a Public Security Officer to join our team in Wilmington, DE. This role is responsible for providing protection for patients, visitors, and associates by maintaining peace and order at Nemours Children’s Hospital – Delaware (NCH-D). Responsibilities include the prevention, detection, investigation, and reporting of unlawful and unsafe activities within the Hospital and contiguous properties and buildings. This involves interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects; collecting, reviewing, and preserving evidence; and conducting searches and surveillance. The role requires the application of non-violent verbal intervention and de-escalation skills to mitigate disruptive behavior and dangerous activity. The officer will provide escort for unauthorized individuals from the campus and prevent patient elopement and abduction. Additionally, the role involves conducting fire, evacuation, and miscellaneous emergency management drills as required by the State of Delaware, the Joint Commission, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The officer will investigate violations of Nemours Standards of Behavior as directed by Nemours Administration, Human Resources, Risk, Legal, and Public Safety department leadership. Responsibilities also include providing access control into the Hospital and specific areas, and applying visitor restrictions and limitation measures. The role may involve providing safe vehicle transportation or ambulance support for patients and families, as needed. Specific patient support includes one-on-one monitoring for inpatient units, assisting with aggressive or unstable patients, escorts for patients in custody, visitors designated as tier two or three sex offenders, and visitors with a history of aggressive behavior or domestic issues. Patient searches, and room safety sanitization for suicidal/homicidal patients are also part of the duties. The officer will provide first responder assessment of threats against staff, patients, and families.

Requirements

High school diploma required
Security officer experience preferred

Responsibilities
