About The Position

This position is responsible for providing security for the safety and protection of Hospitals patients, staff, general public, and properties. The role involves patrolling buildings and grounds, examining entry points for security, warning violators of rule infractions, and apprehending or expelling individuals engaged in suspicious or criminal acts. The officer will also watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards and security breaches, observe departing personnel to guard against theft, and record data on property damage and unusual occurrences. All incidents must be recorded in writing or electronic media. The position assists local authorities with investigations and reports criminal acts to appropriate leadership and/or local authorities. Additionally, the officer assists Hospital staff as required, providing protection and safety to patients and others, and adheres to all general and special orders as directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Obtain and satisfactorily complete the initial 8 hour Hospital Orientation Program and Annual Competency Reviews and any other training as may be occasionally mandated.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Successful completion of Management of Aggressive Behavior within 30 days of hire required.
  • One years related experience and/or training in public safety.
  • Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Successful completion of Management of Aggressive Behavior within 30 days of hire required.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the Hospital emergency room programs.
  • Ability to effectively deal with a wide range of public safety issues handling a multitude of variables in changing situations.
  • Ability to interpret and understand written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to instructions that may be furnished by way of written document, oral command or diagram.
  • Ability to cooperate with law enforcement agencies consistent with the Hospital’s legal obligation to protect the rights and privileges of its patients in accordance with Federal and State Laws.
  • Provide security for the safety and protection of Hospitals patients, staff, general public, and properties.
  • Patrols, periodically, buildings and grounds of Hospital.
  • Examines doors, windows, and other points of entry to determine that they are secure.
  • Tags and records all points of entry found unlocked or unsecured.
  • Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts, in accordance to applicable laws.
  • Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
  • Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of Hospital property.
  • Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and other acts of suspicious instances.
  • Records all incidents in writing or electronic media.
  • Assists local authorities with investigation of incidents committed on Hospital properties.
  • Reports all criminal acts to the appropriate Security Leadership and or local authorities.
  • Assists Hospital staff as required providing protection and safety to patients or other individuals.
  • Adheres to all general orders and or special orders as directed.
