About The Position

Under general supervision, performs duties to ensure the safety and security of Arnot Health patients, visitors, students and employees. This role involves applying crime risk and safety hazard prevention techniques, enforcing applicable laws and Arnot Health policies, and exercising the power of arrest in accordance with NYS CPL Section 140 as a Public Safety Department employee. The officer acts as a visible representative of Arnot Health, assisting all individuals in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner, maintaining a neat appearance and proper uniform at all times. The position requires a willingness and ability to work any location, day, or shift as required, and to abide by all Arnot Health and departmental policies, rules, and regulations. The employee must understand and demonstrate the importance of satisfying customer/patient needs by interacting in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to their needs, and taking the initiative to maintain communication for a secure and pleasant experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • Eligible to be licensed as a Security Guard in NYS required.
  • Provider CPR required within 90 days of hire date.
  • Must be in good physical condition, able to stand or walk a major portion of their tour in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Able to climb steps and ladders.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (required minimum of 40 lbs.).
  • Mature personality with some decision-making ability.
  • Able to effectively maintain order if a disturbance occurs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Clean and valid Driver's License required.
  • Successfully completes the following training programs and maintain current certification as necessary: FEMA Independent Study Courses: IS 100, IS 200, IS 907, IS 914, International Association of Healthcare Safety & Security (IAHSS-Basic), American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR & AED), Crisis Intervention (PMCS or other as prescribed by organization), Practical and Tactical Handcuffing (PATH), Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol Training (OCAT), OSHA Hazmat for the First Receiver.

Nice To Haves

  • Current valid NYS Security Guard License preferred.
  • Six months to one year of experience desired, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts regular and thorough patrols throughout the interior and exterior of Arnot Health locations, noting and correcting safety, fire, or security hazards.
  • Collects and compiles information for reports, conducts follow-up investigations as needed.
  • Maintains accurate digital logbook entries.
  • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of all Public Safety departmental equipment and uses it responsibly, reporting any problems promptly.
  • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of department Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Policy Manual, Arnot Health Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, and Fire Manual.
  • Responds to all calls for assistance, including Assistant Needed STAT, Fire Alert, Code Teams, and Rapid Response.
  • Responds to and supervises all helicopter arrival/departures.
  • Conducts monthly fire extinguisher inspections and completes Fire Drills as assigned.
  • Conducts FIRE WATCH and Interim Life Safety Measure (ILSM) Rounds as appropriate.
  • Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Public Safety and communicates pertinent information in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Acts as a visible representative of Arnot Health, assisting patients, visitors, and employees promptly, courteously, and professionally.
  • Directs unauthorized persons away from premises.
  • Provides security and escort services when requested, including safety escorts, direct observations, and patient escorts to court proceedings.
  • Enforces parking policy.
  • Performs at least one (1) safety round per shift, covering the main hospital, grounds, and all other on-campus buildings.
  • Performs scheduled locks/unlocks, as well as locks/unlocks upon request.
  • Maintains a current NYS Security Guard License, including attending an 8 Hr. Annual In-service course each year and handling any applicable renewal fees and paperwork.
  • Successfully completes specified training programs and maintains current certification as necessary.
  • Attends additional in-service classes as assigned.
  • Is willing and able to work any location, day or shift as required.
  • Abides by all Arnot Health and departmental policies, rules and regulations.
  • Understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient.
