The Public Safety Officer provides security services with a customer-service approach, focusing on professionalism, fairness, and compassion even in challenging circumstances and in accordance with policies, procedures, and training. This role inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members by presenting a professional, approachable, and service-oriented appearance and demeanor. The officer must be alert, observant, and ethical, complying with and enforcing all safety and security rules and regulations, and maintaining their Department uniform and equipment in good repair. Responsibilities include performing routine patrols, inspections, audits, and searches to ensure safety and security. The officer will assist team members, patients, and visitors by providing information, directions, and physical help, and will ensure traffic control and monitor visitor conduct. This role involves preventing, responding to, and investigating workplace violence, and responding to service calls such as combative patients or visitors and team member incidents. The officer serves as a primary resource for de-escalation, utilizing use of force when necessary, and performs key responsibilities to plan, prevent, practice, and respond to emergencies. They will investigate incidents, complete reports, and address/escalate complaints. Liaison duties are performed to cultivate partnerships with departments and units, and security awareness education is delivered to team members. The officer also liaisons with law enforcement and first responder agencies and coordinates prisoner patient guards. Maintaining current training standards in radio communications, de-escalation, hemorrhage control, CPR, clinical restraints, and conducted energy weapon use is essential. Assistance with exterior traffic and crowd control, including parking enforcement and valet parking assist, is also a responsibility.
