About The Position

The non-exempt hourly position is a specialized public safety officer II (PSO) responsible for maintaining safety, security, and order within the University campus, residence halls, and surrounding footprint. They serve as a visible presence, support student wellbeing, and coordinate closely with university stakeholders including Office of Student Affairs and Student Life, Office of Residential Living, faculty, and staff. This is a 24-hour operation which requires the ability to work an atypical schedule to meet operational necessity, with varied shifts, including weekends and holidays. This position is classified as essential personnel and may require reporting to duty during emergencies or natural disasters, and special events. Adherence to established public safety uniform and grooming standards is mandatory. The PSO II may be called upon to be shift lead and may perform collateral duties as a Field Training Officer for newly hired officers to mentor, coach, and train them in duties of the job. The PSO II may serve as the Acting Shift Supervisor in their absence.

Requirements

Associate’s degree or at least sixty (60) college credits; OR High school diploma or equivalent with (2) years of active or reserve military duty; OR prior State or Federal Certified Law Enforcement Officer; OR Certified State of Florida Guardian with a minimum of 1 year of employment in that role; OR four years of continuous, post-high school work in a Higher Education setting.
Valid driver's license.
Investigative Experience

Responsibilities

Patrol campus on golf cart, vehicle or on foot, inclusive of Residential Halls
Respond to noise complaints or disturbances
Monitor CCTV or alarm systems
Escort students, faculty and staff upon request
Conduct Safety checks (doors, lighting, emergency equipment) in collaboration with Resident Assistance
Incident documentation and communication with dispatch
Detect and respond to safety hazards to ensure safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors.
Provide physical inspections and investigation on campus to ensure a safe environment.
Conduct security and safety audits to ensure that hazards and dangers are identified.
Conduct Residential Room checks in collaboration with the Office of Residential Life.
Maintain certifications as appropriate, to include CPR, AED, tourniquet, crowd manager, etc.
Conducts accident and injury investigations on campus to ensure proper record keeping of incidents.
Complete activity logs, inspection reports and incident reports to ensure proper record keeping of incidents.
Coordinate with local University Leadership, Clery Administrators, local law enforcement concerning the investigation of incidents, crimes, and losses.
Attend collaboration meetings with Office of Residential Life, Resident Assistants, and other University stakeholders.
Conduct fire systems, life safety inspections and emergency response drills.
Lock and unlock access control for campus buildings.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
