About The Position

The Public Safety Officer I (PSO I) is a non-sworn position that performs a variety of functions related to parking support, police support, and public safety services. Responsibilities include patrolling campus parking lots, enforcing parking regulations, collecting cash from permit dispensers and meters, assisting with parking for special events, and maintaining appropriate records. In terms of police support, duties may involve dispatching in the communications center, processing police records, property and evidence control, customer service, maintaining department equipment and fleet, completing non-emergent crime reports, and assisting the public. For public safety services, the role includes providing safety escorts, building and facility security, emergency phone testing, and completing incident reports. The position also involves performing other assigned duties related to these areas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid California Driver License
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and maintain a safe driving record
  • Ability to independently respond and act quickly
  • Ability to accurately evaluate information and situations
  • Ability to make appropriate decisions in routine, non-routine, and emergency situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and confidentiality

  • Ability to successfully complete the POST basic dispatcher academy
  • Ability to successfully complete the CSUCI Police Department Communications Training Program related to public safety support and dispatch activities
