About The Position

Entry level Public Safety opportunities available for service minded individuals interested in facilitating a safe and secure environment for the students, faculty, and staff who live, learn and work at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Public Safety Officer I is responsible for the detection and prevention of crime, for the protection of persons, property and the general maintenance of peace, order and security; duties include patrol, crowd control, traffic control and dispatching.

Requirements

At least some college credits after having completed high school or GED (or qualifying military service)
Must possess and maintain a valid US driver’s license
Ability to obtain and maintain a NYS Security Guard License
CPR and AED certification must be completed within three months of hire
Must successfully complete Rensselaer's Field Officer Training Program within four (4) months of hire
Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking skills
Must possess the ability to assess a situation and apply appropriate conflict resolution techniques
Ability to use crisis intervention techniques
Ability to use relevant personal and/or mobile computing technology
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Requires ability to handle multiple emergency situations
Requires excellent customer relations skills and the ability to deal effectively with a diverse population in an academic setting
