About The Position

The Public Safety Officer I is a full-time position working the night shift (6pm - 6 am) at Arnett Hospital. This role is responsible for creating a safe healthcare environment for team members, patients, and guests by conducting patrols, responding to calls for service, enforcing IU Health rules and policies, and assisting with de-escalation of tense situations. The officer will also investigate criminal activity, maintain records, and perform physical security screening.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED is required.
Requires 0-2 years of relevant experience.
Requires current non-restricted Indiana Driver's License.
Must not have convictions for felony, domestic violence or violent misdemeanor offenses.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment background investigation, drug screening and psychological exam.
Requires working knowledge of computers and various software programs.
Must be able to obtain NCIC/IDACS certification and access.
Have never had law enforcement officer license denied by final order or revoked.
Not currently on suspension or have a voluntary surrender of a law enforcement license currently in effect.

Nice To Haves

Associate's Degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

Conducts rounding and foot and vehicle patrols in and around properties that are owned, leased or occupied by IU Health.
Responds to calls for service.
Enforces and assists in the enforcement of IU Health rules, regulations and policies.
Provides direction and guidance to team members, guests and patients.
Assists teams with de-escalating tense, uncertain and emotional situations.
Investigates criminal activity and vehicle crashes as needed.
Maintains records and logs and completes written reports as required.
Performs physical security screening as required.
Creates a safe healthcare environment for team members, patients and guests.
Performs other duties as assigned by the chain of command.
