About The Position

The St. Louis Public Library is looking for a Public Safety Officer Dispatcher to monitor, acknowledge and report all activity in the Public Safety department through two-way communications, landline, cell phone, email and text. Requirements

  • Able to recall events including people and objects.
  • Able to remain alert for long periods of time.
  • Able to adhere to the chain of command.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Dispatcher experience preferred
  • Security License required through St. Louis City/County Police Department.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of customer service principles.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, and national security operations for the protection of people, data, and property.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as centralized dispatcher for the Library’s Dispatch Center, receiving and making phone calls, emails, and other forms of communication for real-time Public Safety activities
  • Keep management informed of disturbances across the system
  • Make 911, Crisis Response Unit, and other emergency / non-emergency calls for service. Advise other staff throughout Library system of appropriate 911 or other call-for-service parameters based on specific incident criteria
  • Actively monitor live camera system for potential safety issues throughout library system
  • Review footage and provide additional support through camera systems (Meraki and Transcendent)
  • Dispatch PSO-support to calls for disturbances throughout the system
  • Communicate to branches when a PSO or Secondary has called off or running late
  • Maintain (and communicate as necessary) an events log and schedules for Public Safety, Public Services, Maintenance, and other relevant activities that impact the operation of buildings throughout the system
  • Make service calls for low battery or other routine needs related to panic buttons, alarm panels and other Public Safety equipment
  • Dispatch staff to locations for various needs, such as lost-and-found pickup, safety equipment/signage delivery, etc.
  • Help investigate customer complaints involving Public Safety or other incidents
  • Place fire alarms system on test and restore them, as directed
  • Access scheduling software (When to Work) for questions about PSO/Secondary schedules
  • Respond to incident tracking system (PITS) related questions and serve as backup to Public Safety leadership for emergency entries and suspension activities
  • Basic incident tracking system (PITS) related job functions, including writing reports, attaching photos, and other necessary duties
  • Provide training and limited oversight for Public Safety Officers that provide coverage for the Dispatch Center
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
