Under the direction of the Chief of Police or his/her designee, this position supervises the Communications section of the Police Department. The role involves receiving 911 emergency police and non-emergency calls, dispatching officers, and training Public Safety Communications Dispatchers. The supervisor operates various telecommunications center equipment in a highly stressful environment. This role also requires managing personnel, overseeing record custody, coordinating equipment repairs and upgrades, participating in budget preparation, and maintaining cooperative working relationships with law enforcement and justice system agencies. The position involves receiving and evaluating emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching police and animal control units, providing dispatching services to various officers, operating a multi-channel radio system, monitoring security cameras, and handling telephone inquiries and complaints. Additionally, the role includes making copies of recordings for attorneys, changing audio tapes for record-keeping, providing court testimony, interfacing with police command staff, assisting with custodial duties, and ensuring training is updated as required.
