The Public Safety Assistant conducts regular interior and exterior patrols to ensure the safety and security of the property, including inspecting exit doors, offices, storerooms, and departments for security and hazards. They monitor and report suspicious activity on hospital property and surrounding areas. The role may involve being assigned to a stationary post for visible deterrence and visitor control. Assistants help patients and visitors with information and directions, perform lost and found pick-ups, and conduct foot patrols of parking lots to enforce parking policy. They may coordinate and monitor Contracted Security for parking, facilitate police citations and towing services, and issue parking violation notices while maintaining a database of violations. The assistant ensures traffic control, monitors visitor conduct, and reports safety hazards and security vulnerabilities to the LPS Sergeant. In extreme cases, they may perform medical standbys when a security officer is not required.
