About The Position

The Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness (PSEP) Public Safety Specialist is responsible for providing day-to-day supervision, and leadership for the campus public safety staff. Create an inclusive environment in which all people are valued and supported on the team. The PSEP Public Safety Specialists will report directly to the Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Campus Lead.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to manage and handle a variety of public safety related situations.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Must have the ability to utilize Microsoft Office software.
  • Must possess organizational skills and be able to clearly and accurately communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be adept at resolving individual and group conflicts.
  • Must possess the skills necessary to operate and maintain CCTV and Access Control systems and operate alarms.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and staff on campus by utilizing vehicle, and foot patrol functions.
  • Responds to and assists with all on-campus emergencies by coordinating with first responders and campus leadership.
  • Conduct security and safety inspections of buildings and grounds, open and secure buildings, and deter crime by means of physical presence.
  • Provide exemplary customer service to the College, community and campus guests, by means of assisting motorists, conducting escorts and performing traffic duties.
  • Complete written incidents reports and necessary forms as they relate to public safety duties.
  • Assist in conducting public safety training sessions.
  • Contributes to the management of campus emergency notification systems.
  • Upholds and maintains the Campus PSEP staff standards.
  • Works with the Campus PSEP Lead to maintain programs that ensure compliance with Federal and state safety regulations, including but not limited to fire code, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations.
  • Serve as a model for strong leadership, develops and supports the Campus culture of collaboration and commitment to delivering high quality services and outcomes, by being student- and employee-centered.
  • All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
