Under general supervision, the Public Safety Aide performs a wide variety of tasks such as responding to parking and traffic related calls, issuing parking citations, serving correspondence, and preparing related reports and/or documentation, which do not require the authority of a sworn law enforcement officer. Actual work performed will vary according to assignment and position level. This position and its respective classifications are non-commissioned positions within the Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) Department of Public Safety (DPS). This position does not have arrest powers and is unarmed. The incumbent will operate a motor vehicle as necessary for assigned tasks. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has an interest in law enforcement and is seeking future advancement opportunities in public safety with the ENMU DPS after serving in this civilian capacity. Therefore, when eligible, the incumbent must make an effort to progress into a police officer role in the state of New Mexico and transition (through open recruitment) to an uncertified police cadet (Police Officer I - Uncertified) position between nineteen (19) and twenty-one (21) years of age.
