About The Position

The Public Programs Manager will support the Director of Public Programs and Engagement in developing, implementing, and evaluating a range of public programs for diverse audiences. This role is responsible for team-level project management of public programs, ensuring project deadlines are met. The manager will oversee existing and new production workflows, coordinate project meetings, and review spending against budgets, tasks, and timelines. They will also be responsible for documenting and evaluating programs, conducting research for programs, and maintaining the public programs calendar. Collaboration with various departments, including Guest Experience, Volunteer Programs, Development, Curatorial, Learning and Civic Engagement, Exhibition Design and Production, Audience Engagement, Marketing and Branding, Communications, and Financial, is crucial. The role involves writing program descriptions, acting as a liaison with community organizations, and performing other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, art education, arts management, education, or other related field, with demonstrable interest in Asian and Asian American art desired, or equivalent related experience.
  • 3–4 years’ full-time or equivalent experience producing public programs in a museum or cultural setting.
  • Demonstrated event production and program management skills and experience, and experience managing the development of community-based programs.
  • Knowledge of or experience with Asian and/or Asian American art and culture.
  • Experience designing, supporting, and evaluating visitor experiences across the full guest journey, including program outreach, registration, accessibility, customer service, and program engagement.
  • Proven track record of successful program/project management, effective leadership, and staff supervision.
  • Experience working across multiple digital engagement and project management platforms.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a positive, flexible demeanor.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Superior attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multi-task.
  • Experience training, supervising, and collaborating with volunteers and frontline event staff.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Successful audience development, program evaluation, and grant writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel, Word) and facility for learning other standard office and project management software programs.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Public Programs and Engagement in developing, implementing, and evaluating a range of public programs for diverse audiences.
  • Responsible for team-level project management of public programs. Ensure project deadlines are communicated and successfully met.
  • Manage existing and new production workflows for public programs, including coordinating project meetings and reviewing spending against budgets, tasks, and timelines with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Document and evaluate programs and initiatives. Work with the Director of Public Programs and Engagement to analyze and communicate evaluation outcomes.
  • Undertake research for programs, including gathering background information about artists, performers, and potential community partners.
  • Maintain the public programs calendar and work with colleagues in Audience Engagement and other departments to support the visitor experience and promote all programs and events.
  • Partner with Guest Experience and Volunteer Programs staff to develop event logistics, volunteer assignments, and guest engagement that supports welcoming and high-quality visitor experiences.
  • Coordinate and improve pre-event, onsite, and post-event operations to analyze program impact and the visitor journey (audience communication, accessibility, wayfinding, etc.).
  • Work closely with colleagues in Development on sponsorships, grant writing, and reporting.
  • Build trusting relationships across the museum, including Curatorial, Learning and Civic Engagement, Exhibition Design and Production, Audience Engagement, Marketing, and Branding, Communications, Financial, and other key internal partners.
  • Write program descriptions, program notes, and program introductions. Check cross-museum outreach for programmatic accuracy.
  • Act as the liaison between the museum and local community organizations and partners.
  • Perform other duties as required.
