About The Position

Samsara is seeking an experienced, agile, and capable Manager to join its Public Policy and Government Relations team. This role is critical for navigating the policy landscape, forging new relationships, representing the company, and advancing its interests in U.S. State and Local markets. The team works closely with lawmakers, regulatory bodies, trade associations, and industry experts to proactively engage in initiatives that support Samsara's business interests. Internally, these efforts support engineering, product, strategy, legal, and partnerships teams. The ideal candidate will enjoy serving as a key contributor on a diverse range of substantive advocacy initiatives, aid in identifying opportunities for sales enablement and engagement, developing creative strategies and content, and representing Samsara externally to key stakeholders in state and local government and allied third parties. Samsara values collaborative individuals who excel in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, can work across multiple teams and on multiple projects, can take in many inputs and communicate clearly and effectively, and provide colleagues with practical insight and guidance. This role is open to candidates residing in the US except the San Francisco Bay Metro Area, NYC Metro Area, and Washington, D.C. Metro Area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years of relevant public policy, political, and/or government experience and an in-depth understanding of the policymaking process and government relations in the United States.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in state and local government affairs and advocacy (e.g., legislative wins, relationships with officials, involvement with third parties, etc.).
  • Skilled at persuasively and diplomatically advocating complex policy positions before a wide variety of audiences.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to concisely summarize policy issues and advocacy points.
  • Experience managing multiple high-priority projects simultaneously in a fast-moving, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to thrive in new situations, learn quickly, jump in, and responsibly manage one’s own time and deliverables in a remote work environment.
  • Teammate with a strong willingness to pitch in as necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Passion for and knowledge of emerging technology and related public policy issues.
  • Experience in state or local government, in advocacy, or in-house on issues facing highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge and experience with privacy, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, transportation, or other public policy issues related to data-driven industries.
  • In-house experience at another technology company.
  • The ability to effectively translate government-to-business and business-to-government issues.
  • The ability to issue spot, identifying potential opportunities for sales enablement and challenges before they materialize.

Responsibilities

  • Help develop and execute policy strategies that advance Samsara’s business goals in key U.S. state and local markets on the East Coast, Northeast, Midwest, and Southeast.
  • Identify and track proposed bills, regulations, and policy positions at the state and municipal levels that are relevant to Samsara, assessing their potential impact, developing strategies for engagement, and keeping the business informed.
  • Work closely with the sales teams to help create new tailwinds and affect the adoption and usage of Samsara’s technologies through policy initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant governors, mayors, state legislators, regulatory officials, and trade associations.
  • Assist with filings, comments, testimony, and other input for legislative committees and regulatory bodies.
  • Manage outside consultants to expand our reach in key state markets.
  • Collaborate with other Samsarians in the creation of content (collateral, blog posts, etc.) that articulate Samsara’s vision and values in a manner that is compelling to policymakers.
