About The Position

Performs inspections of public infrastructures for various civil construction projects (i.e., paving, water and wastewater lines and facilities, storm sewers and traffic signals) to ensure conformance to project specifications and contract documents. Responsibilities include: Conduct on-site inspections and oversee restoration work to ensure all construction materials, concrete composition, and workmanship meet industry standards, project specifications, and safety regulations. Ensures contractors properly notify residents of construction in the area. Coordinate and manage work orders, laboratory testing, and scheduling while monitoring project progress, prioritizing workloads, and maintaining accurate, up-to-date job status reports. Verify site conditions, materials, measurements, and quantities to ensure accurate restoration to original conditions and proper alignment with payment approvals and contract requirements. Maintain strong communication with contractors, city personnel, and customers by addressing concerns, documenting interactions, and ensuring all required permits and compliance standards are met. Represent the department at conferences and meetings. Prepare and upload detailed daily field reports—including photos, sketches, and documentation into CIPMS to support tracking, documentation, and payment processing for all work orders overseen. Travel to various facilities as needed to inspect buildings and address facility maintenance issues, following direction and priorities established by the section Manager. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or a GED certificate.
  • Four (4) years of skilled experience related to construction are required.
  • Requires a valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (A.P. 2-2).
