About The Position

This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor. Works under the general direction of the Clinical Manager to provide routine nursing services for SCHD’s WIC, Well Child exams (EPSDT), and Immunization Programs. Works with families to address health issues by facilitating access to the WIC Program.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of generalized registered nursing experience; and an AD/Diploma from an accredited School of Nursing; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited registered nursing program.
  • Active, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee (OR application for license transfer to TN must be in process for consideration).
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license by date of employment.
  • Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
  • Must be flexible and available to work some nights and/or weekends.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Tennessee (Licensure application must have been submitted upon date of employment).
  • Basic physical assessment course must be completed within six (6) months of employment.
  • Must maintain all required certifications and licenses throughout the duration of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric/nutritional health, and/or outpatient immunization clinical experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and monitor nutritional health and development for women and children in accordance with Shelby County Health Department protocols and Tennessee Centers for Disease Control (CDC) medical safety standards.
  • Provide pediatric and adult nursing services under joint protocols to deliver expanded role nursing services to patients, assess individual medical conditions, and individual and/or group instructions on specific diagnostic and treatment procedures.
  • Assess, determine and meet the immunizations needs of infants, children and adults according to ACIP and CDC recommendations and programmatic protocols.
  • Implements program strategies for public health services. Participates in quality improvement activities of the program or unit.
  • Works in partnership with local agencies and service providers to promote an integrated public health service.
  • Informs supervisor of barriers interfering with health care assessment and provision.
  • Attends and communicates in team meetings and consults with other clinicians and professionals and contributes to staff development ensuring the provision of quality services to the community.
  • Participates in public health emergency response duties as assigned and consistent with job classification and training provided in response to natural disasters and threats to public health.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.
