About The Position

Under general supervision of the HHS-Practice Administrator in the Health Services Division of the Health & Human Services (HHS) Department, provides management of public health nursing services to SRPMIC Community Members with the goals of promoting and restoring health, preventing disease and disability as well as improving the quality of life. This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt.

Requirements

  • Active unrestricted AZ Registered Nurse license.
  • An Associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university, bachelor’s degree preferred, and Registered Nurse Certification from an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Five (5) years professional Nursing experience required.
  • At least two (2) years’ experience Nursing Supervisor/Charge Nurse preferred.
  • Experience working with Native Americans strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of infection control, immunizations, wound care, diabetes education and chronic disease management preferred.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License-preferred.
  • New hires in clinical roles must present valid BLS certification (Healthcare Provider BLS for clinicians) prior to the first day of patient care.
  • Ensures all patient information is kept confidential and complies with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations and SRPMIC HHS policies and procedures.
  • Will be required to pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees Public Health nursing operations and staff.
  • Provides full technical and administrative supervision of Public Health nursing staff.
  • Plans, assigns, directs, and evaluates the work of Public Health nurses.
  • Prepares work schedules and coordinates staff coverage, leave requests and on-call assignments as needed.
  • Monitors attendance, timecards and compliance with departmental expectations.
  • Conducts timely performance evaluations and provides coaching, mentoring and corrective action when necessary.
  • Establishes goals, objectives and performance expectations for Public Health nursing staff.
  • Ensures compliance with professional licensure requirements, standards of care, policies, procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Provides orientation, training and ongoing staff development to support quality nursing practice.
  • Maintains a safe, clean and effective work environment for staff and clients.
  • Collaborates with leadership to develop and implement Public Health priorities, initiatives and strategic goals.
  • Maintains Public Health nursing services in alignment with Community priorities, departmental objectives and standards of care.
  • Evaluates Public Health nursing processes, workflows and procedures for quality, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Recommends and implements changes to improve program operations and client outcomes.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of Public Health programs, services, and initiatives.
  • Maintains inventory of nursing and program supplies by reviewing usage trends, anticipating needs and approving requisitions.
  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of operational budgets, including personnel, supplies and program expenditures.
  • Participates in grant-related activities, reporting requirements, and performance measures as assigned.
  • Maintains documentation of services through review and audit of client records, reports and program activities.
  • Assist with Public Health nursing duties and provides direct client care as needed.
  • Obtains health histories and performs nursing assessments.
  • Initiates preventative health measures within the scope of practice for a professional Registered Nurse.
  • Carries out medical provider orders and implements appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Adheres to established policies, procedures, standing orders and evidence-based practice standards.
  • Coordinates targeted health promotion, disease prevention and screening activities.
  • Participates in immunization clinics, communicable disease prevention activities, chronic disease management, maternal and child health services and other Public Health initiatives.
  • Maintains client confidentiality and protects sensitive health information.
  • Documents client care and oversees quality of nursing documentation.
  • Ensures accurate, timely and complete documentation across Public Health program areas.
  • Identifies opportunities for quality improvement and implements corrective actions when needed.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of client education materials, documentation tools and equipment.
  • Provide oversight of care coordination activities.
  • Coordinates services with families, Community programs, health care providers and outside agencies.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary consultation and review teams.
  • Provides referrals for clients with needs beyond the scope of Public Health nursing services.
  • Monitors and supports medication management activities.
  • Monitors medications effectiveness, side effects and potential drug interactions.
  • Provides medication education to clients and families.
  • Assists with medication administration and monitoring as appropriate.
  • Ensures medication-related documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Collects, analyzes and reports Public Health program data.
  • Maintains and analyzes program data to identify trends, gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepares reports, summaries and required documentation for leadership, grant reporting and other agencies.
  • Monitors performance measures and outcomes for Public Health programs.
  • Leads health education, outreach and engagement activities.
  • Plans, coordinates and delivers health education programs for Community members and staff.
  • Provides education related to chronic disease prevention, communicable disease prevention, CPR, bloodborne pathogens, diabetes management and other health topics.
  • Collaborates with Community departments, schools, health care providers and other agencies to promote health and wellness.
  • Actively engages individuals and groups who may benefit from Public Health programs and services.
  • Identifies Community health risks and participates in outreach and intervention activities.
  • Maintains professional knowledge, skills and licensure.
  • Participates in continuing education, staff development, meetings, conferences and training opportunities.
  • Maintains current nursing licensure and required certifications.
  • Keep informed of current Public Health trends, evidence-based practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance departmental operation.
