About The Position

This is the entry-level position in the public health nursing classification series. This position is responsible for performing routine tasks and duties assigned. Assignments are generally limited in scope and are performed within a procedural framework. The purpose of this job is to provide comprehensive professional public health nursing services in a variety of office, clinic, and community settings.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in nursing from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing.
  • Previous nursing experience or training.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Colorado, CPR certification, and current credentials including continuing and pertinent education in the field of public health nursing.
  • Ability to move around diverse healthcare settings, including clinics, homes, and community centers, to provide nursing services.
  • Capable of assisting patients with mobility, which may involve lifting and positioning individuals with physical limitations, up to 45 pounds unassisted.
  • Able to bend, stoop, and kneel when assessing patients, providing treatments, or accessing medical supplies.
  • Proficient in handling medical equipment, administering medications, and performing procedures that require precision and dexterity.
  • Prepared for physical contact when conducting patient assessments, administering injections, or providing hands-on care.
  • Sufficient visual acuity for assessing patient conditions, reading medical records, and administering medications accurately.
  • Hearing and auditory perception to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to sit during documentation and planning sessions, often in clinical settings or offices.
  • Display precise fine motor skills when performing medical procedures, documenting patient information, and using medical equipment.
  • Proficient in communication, and able to communicate using the English language, including written, verbal, or other communication channels as required by the position.
  • Understands the principles, practices, and objectives of professional and public health nursing. Can provide core public health functions and essential services.
  • Ability to utilize the technology required of the position and demonstrates a willingness to learn new technologies as required to assist the County in providing exceptional services, innovation, and work efficiencies.
  • A commitment to providing exceptional service to all customers (internal & external), which includes being helpful, professional, courteous, and taking the time to understand customer's needs.
  • Able to work together with a diverse group of people towards a shared goal, while considering the needs of others.

Responsibilities

  • Under close supervision, performs routine public health nursing services for the public in offices, outlying clinics, and community settings.
  • Participates in Garfield County Public Health activities requiring RN participation and community outreach.
  • Participates in continuing education offerings.
  • Reviews all work products to ensure the highest level of quality.
  • Performs emergency response roles, as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
