About The Position

This position is open to all applicants. Public Health Nurses (PHNs) play a vital role in promoting wellness and protecting Alaska communities through activities such as health screenings, preventive care, infectious disease monitoring and treatment, and community health assessments and improvement initiatives. As a Public Health Nurse 3, you will provide expert-level care, contribute to quality improvement efforts, and travel periodically to outlying communities to deliver care where it's needed most. As a member of the Section of Public Health Nursing, you will contribute every day to the improvement of the health of Alaskans and their families. Requirements

A valid Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.
Alaska Registered Nurse License -- Alaska Nurse Practice Act: Nursing Statutes AS 08.68, Nursing Regulations 12 AAC 44.
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university or Direct Entry Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing from an accredited college or university
Competencies in Public Health: Applies knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases.
Competencies in Decision Making: Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.
Competencies in Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.
Competencies in Partnering: Develops networks and builds alliances; collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals.
Competencies in Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
Proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella immunizations.
Proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or a signed declination statement).
Annual influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement.
Proof of Tuberculosis screening within the past 12 months.
A copy of your current driver’s license.
