About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking motivated and service-oriented individuals for our Public Health Internship Program. This internship provides an opportunity for currently enrolled college or university students to gain hands-on experience in a professional public health environment. Public health is the science and practice of protecting and improving the health of people and communities through education, policy, research, prevention, and access to care. It focuses on promoting wellness, preventing disease, and ensuring conditions that support the health of all individuals. Interns will be placed in one primary area of public health based on their interests, academic background, and the needs of the department. While assigned to a specific program, interns will also have opportunities to learn about the broader public health system through cross-program collaboration, staff meetings, and exposure to various department initiatives. This internship offers valuable experience for students preparing for careers in public health, healthcare administration, policy, or related fields. Internship format (in-person, hybrid, or remote) may vary based on project needs and office location.
