About The Position

The Maryland Department of Health's (MDH) Public Health Internship Program (PHIP) is seeking undergraduate and graduate students for its Fall 2026 cohort. This program aims to create partnerships with academic institutions to offer valuable internship opportunities, facilitating the transition from education to the public health workforce. The fall session runs for 12 weeks, from September 23, 2026, to December 15, 2026. Interns can work up to 240 hours, averaging about 20 hours per week. The program covers diverse areas including Behavioral Sciences, Community Health, Epidemiology, Health Education, Health Informatics, Health Policy, Healthcare Administration, Infectious Disease, Preparedness and Response, and Public Health Communications. Applicants will complete a supplemental questionnaire to indicate preferred subject areas, internship format (in-person or hybrid), and desired internship counties. Applications are due by July 21, 2026, at 11:59 PM, with interviews and selections following. MDH is committed to professional growth and contributing to the public health system.

Requirements

  • At least 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university with current enrollment in an undergraduate program OR currently enrolled in a graduate program.
  • At least a 2.5 GPA or equivalent.
  • Recent graduates from an accredited college or university may also apply (defined as completing a bachelor's or master's degree on or after August 1, 2025).
  • Submission of transcripts, diplomas, and/or proof of enrollment at the time of application (transcripts may be unofficial).
  • Applications submitted by July 21, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
