About The Position

The ODH Public Health Laboratory is seeking a passionate Public Health Genetics Consultant who is interested in teaming up with hospitals and clinicians to improve the health of newborns in Ohio. In Ohio, every baby receives newborn screening by law to identify babies who may be at risk for some rare but serious health conditions. In this role, you will be a vital bridge between specialized laboratory data, healthcare providers, and families, ensuring that at-risk infants receive the prompt diagnosis and care they need.

Requirements

• 42 months experience as a health care professional (e.g., Pediatric Registered Dietician, Registered Nurse) in a pediatric setting to include experience in program evaluation, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating &/or working collaboratively with coalitions or groups; must be able to provide own transportation.
• OR 42 months experience in genetics consultation in health, public health or related field to include experience in program evaluation, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating &/or working collaboratively with coalitions or groups; must be able to provide own transportation.
• OR Completion of graduate core coursework in Genetic Counseling; 6 months experience in providing direct service &/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting to include experience in program evaluation, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating &/or working collaboratively with coalitions or groups; completion of graduate core coursework in Genetic Counseling; must be able to provide own transportation.
• OR Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
• Proof of Hepatitis-B vaccination before first day of work.
• Must be able to provide own transportation.

Nice To Haves

• Graduate or advanced degree in Genetic Counseling, Biochemistry, or Medical Science
• Clinical experience working in setting for genetics, endocrinology, biochemistry, or neonatology
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse Physician Assistant-Certified, or Registered Dietician
• Experience providing medical technical assistance or educational consultation
• Experience designing and performing data analysis and producing reports
• Experience developing educational materials and presenting trainings
• Experience performing medical case management
• Experience in monitoring quality assurance indicators and documenting organizational compliance with regulatory standards
• Experience with computer software (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Electronic Medical Records)

Responsibilities

• Explain newborn screening results and the recommended follow up actions.
• Help plan, develop, and evaluate program activities to ensure compliance with state rules and regulations.
• Design and present training sessions for medical professionals and the community, while contributing to state advisory committee's.
• Stay on the cutting edge of newborn screening literature, track policy developments, and maintain detailed program reports and case assessments.
