About The Position

Due to our continuous growth in our contract within the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO) at Customs and Border Protection (CBP), we are seeking a Public Health Field Investigator (Rio Grande Valley, TX) to join our team. The optimal candidate must have a bachelor’s degree or higher in public health, nursing, environmental health, health sciences, or a related field. This mid-level position requires experience in communicable disease control, public health, occupational health, detention or correctional health, emergency preparedness, healthcare quality, epidemiology, or a related field.

Requirements

  • Must be US Citizen and be able to pass a DHS Full Scope Background Investigation.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in public health, nursing, environmental health, health sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience in communicable disease control, public health, occupational health, detention or correctional health, emergency preparedness, healthcare quality, epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary partners such as public health authorities, healthcare personnel, operational leadership, or emergency response stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop written reports, recommendations, training materials, and field summaries.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments while maintaining routine communication with headquarters leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles in healthcare, congregate, detention, correctional, emergency response, or operational environments.
  • Knowledge of communicable disease prevention and control, including tuberculosis, respiratory illness, gastrointestinal illness, bloodborne pathogens, vaccine-preventable disease, and emerging infectious diseases.
  • Ability to translate public health guidance into recommendations for operational personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with CBP personnel, contractors, and public health partners.
  • Flexibility to respond to changing schedules, field conditions, public health incidents, and operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the field, public health subject matter expert for the assigned area, including Ports of Entry and Border Patrol Stations.
  • Serves as a liaison between field operators, contracted medical personnel, local/state health departments and OCMO regarding communicable disease matters.
  • Provides communicable disease education, training, and technical assistance to CBP personnel, contractors, and other field stakeholders.
  • Provides timely written and verbal updates to OCMO leadership regarding field findings, emerging concerns, recommended actions, and public health coordination efforts.
  • Conducts public health field assessments, including site visits, to identify risks related to communicable disease transmission.
  • Supports communicable disease surveillance, exercises, after-action reviews, emerging infectious disease responses, and other public health activities as assigned.
